Docs: Longer Texts with Formatting

Docs is the area for text that has more to it than a note: the recipe, the instructions for the heating system, the draft of a letter, the notes from a meeting. Each document has a title and a body, is filed in a group, and is read in the same window it was written in. The name in the application is Docs; in the export file and in a few older screens the same records are called notes.

Groups

The left panel holds the groups. The plus in its header creates one, with a name and an icon of your choice; the pencil renames it, the wastebasket removes it once it holds nothing. Groups nest: drag one by its icon, up and down for the position, left and right for the level.

Writing a document

With a group selected, the plus above the list opens the editor. You give the document a title, then write. The editor has the usual buttons above the text: bold and italic, headings, quotes, bulleted and numbered lists, and links. Save with the button at the bottom of the form, or with CTRL-S.

The pencil above the list opens the selected document again for editing, and the wastebasket deletes the selection. To read a document instead of editing it, click its title: the text is then shown as it was formatted.

Sorting and moving

Documents keep the order you give them. The handle on the left of each row drags a document up or down within its group. To put it into a different group, take the document by its icon and drop it onto the group in the left panel.

Selecting follows the rule that holds everywhere in Bookmax: click into a free part of the row. Clicking the text selects the text for copying, and clicking the title opens the document. Several rows at once by dragging over them or with SHIFT and CTRL.

Import, export and limits

Premium accounts can export documents to a text file and read one back in. Every account, free or paid, can use the backup in the settings, which writes all documents together with the rest of the account into a single file.
